Solar water heating system and Solar Photo Voltaic installed in Begana Training Center

A small event was organized to commission the newly installed solar water heating system and solar photo voltaic (PV) at Begana training center on 5th June, 2018. The water heating system that runs in both grid and solar can heat up to 1000 liters of water and the Solar PV can generate up to 11 kW of electricity. The water heating system is run on grid from morning 4 AM till evening 6:00 AM and then is run on solar. The 11 kW generated from the Solar PV is used for supplying load to the building  and the excess electricity is supplied to the grid.

The event was graced by the presence of the Managing Director, Management and Sr. officials of BPC. The Management also opened the Eco Park in Begana. The park has an outhouse, view-point, a tree house and a meditation corner to name a few. The space provides a cozy environment for official/family outings.

DCSD Progress Review Meeting, 2018

A Progress Review Meeting (PRM) for Distribution and Customer Services Department (DCSD) was held from 3rd – 4th June 2018. The PRM was conducted to review the progress of various works taken up by the ESDs in financial year 2018 and also to discuss the pressing issues in its core business areas such as – Planning & Budgeting, Operation & Maintenance, and Metering & Billing functions.


Two days PRM was graced and chaired by Honorable Managing Director (MD), BPC. In the closing remarks, MD reminded that BPC has been doing very good because of hard work of everybody in BPC and should keep it up in future as well to take the company forward. DCSD being the face of BPC, should always prioritize customer care. He also reminded the core values of BPC and asked everyone to give full cooperation to sort out any issues for improving the overall efficiency of BPC.

To celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and to mark the Social Forestry Day on June 2nd 2018, the Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) joined the nation in tree plantation program across the country. BPC carried out tree planation program in three locations with support from developing partners and community people. Environment & GIS Division, Corporate Services, BPC, Thimphu coordinated these programs with unwavering support from concerned project offices and their contractors.


In Thimphu, 66kV Transmission Project office, Changedaphu in collaboration with the contractors, CDCL and GE T&D India Limited carried out plantation of about 300 saplings of Chirpine (Pinus roxburghii) and Oak (Quercus spp.) at Tsalumarphey, Debsi Phakha, Babesa. The team also conducted a small cleaning campaign in that area right after plantation program.

In Zhemgang, the 400kV Mangdechhu Transmission Line Project Division Office-I, Tingtibi with the contractor M/s. Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd. in close collaboration with Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, carried out the plantation program at Berti Community Forest, Berti village under Trong Gewog. A total of 150 saplings of champ (Michelia spp.) and 125 saplings of Teak (Tectona grandis) were planted in Berti Community Forest and supplied to 26 households in Berti village with one number of Mango (Mangifera indica), Litchi (Litchi chinensis), Walnut (Juglans regia) and Avocado (Persea spp.) saplings for each household.

Similarly, in continuation to the Social Forestry Day event, the 132 kV Project Office, Kanglung, Trashigang in partnership with the contractor, M/S Shyama Power India Limited carried out tree plantation program on 3rd June 2018 at Thrizor and Barshong under Khaling Gewog. A total of 150 numbers of saplings of Mapple (Acer campbellii), Chenju Shing/Pipli (Exbucklandia populnea) and Zala shing (Schima wallichii)  were planted.
