BPC now have a Data Centre as per Tier III, TIA-942 Standards

A Five (5) days long ‘Data Center Ownership’ training is underway from February 19-23, 2010 for nine (9) IT and Electrical maintenance staffs of BPC at the Data Center Room, Basement of corporate building, Thimphu. The training is focused on the following topics:

1. Training on UPS and PEC, TVSS along with Functionality and Operation.
2. Operation and Maintenance of entire data center electrical systems explaining the layout, diagrams and cable and pipe (fire, electrical, data, security) layouts, maintenance and functionality, various panel operations etc..
3. Operation and maintenance of Fire detection and Fire Suppression system, Access control and IP camera functionality, operation and maintenance

The Bhutan Power Corporation Ltd. has now completed the setup of all the passive components of Data Centre as per Tier III, TIA-942 Standards.

The overall work awarded to Ms. Bhutan International as joint venture with M/s. Wizertech Informatics (P) Ltd, Kolkata, India included the supply, delivery, installation, configuration and commissioning of a Data Centre (as per Tier III, TIA-942 Standards) as an integrated turnkey project services which included structural changes to the identified data centre space, provision of a reliable end to end redundant power equipment/solution, provision of sufficient cooling equipment/solution and installation of safety and security equipment in accordance with the guidelines and standards stated as per the Tier III, TIA – 942 Standard.

The BPC’s tier III data center is located in the basement of BPC corporate office, Thimphu and has a server room space of 595 sq. feet excluding the NOC (Network Operation and Control) room and the UPS/Electrical room. The data center will house Twenty (20) numbers of 800mm(W) x 1000mm(D) 42U Racks.

BPC will be using at the maximum eight (8) 42U racks for our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and other critical services viz. BPC web, mail and FTP services and will be leasing twelve (12) racks to the internal clients in Bhutan as per the necessary formalities.

The total cost of the completed project was 9.457 Million excluding the cost of the server racks, the IP based KVM switches and the 320 KVA silent generator that will be added in 2010 in the second phase of the data center project.
