Electricity Services Division, Thimphu conducted safety awareness campaign

Electricity Services Division, Thimphu, conducted safety awareness campaign to the DYT members of Thimphu Dzongkhag in the DYT Hall on April 19, 2012. Manager of ESD, Thimphu, opened the campaign by thanking DYT chairman and members for making the campaign possible in short notice despite the tight schedule of DYT meeting. In his opening speech, manager emphasis on the safe use of electricity, indispensability of electricity to every walks of life and Right of Ways issues BPC faces during the execution of work. Manager urged all the DYT members to provide support and cooperation with BPC to enable BPC to provide services to public 24×7. Manager informed the DYT members the causes of power disruptions which are mainly man made like cable damages, erection of flags poles near power lines, breaking insulators by miscreants, tree felling near power line by public without informing BPC, etc.


Manager empathized on the risk and danger associated with electricity if it is not utilize in the manner it should be used, which can prove fatal to lives. He informed the gathering that electricity is GOOD SERVANT BUT BAD MASTER. Electricity is to be used properly for everyday life but do not play with it, was the message conveyed.

BPC participated for the first time in the 17th national Table Tennis Championship

This year, BPC participated for the first time in the 17th national Table Tennis Championship organized by Bhutan Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) held at National Table Tennis Training Center at Thimphu from 11th -15th April 2012. A team comprising of eight members participated in the event and won trophies.


The event attracted over 200 participants, mostly students from Thimphu, Punakha, Paro and Wangduephodrang and former players and veterans from different organizations in Thimphu. Out of the 10 categories, the BPC team participated in 5 events – Open Singles, Women Singles, Open Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Veteran.

The newly constructed MV, LV lines & substations from Dungdungnesa to Ridda gonpa, Ridda-wom, Yusagang, Tashidingkha, Chubar, Chubar Chorten, Doksina, Tomla, Tshegona, Tokaling, Khasay, Dencholing, Tangra, Godrang & Lumzu villages of Dangchu gewog under Wangdue dzongkhag will be test charged on 10/04/2012 & will remain charged thereafter. Therefore, the general public of these areas are requested to keep themselves & their animals away from lines & substations to avoid any accidents. BPC shall not be responsible for non compliance to above notification.

Safety awareness to the DYT members of Pemagatshel Dzongkhag.

On 1st March 2012 ESD, Pemagatshel conducted the safety awareness to the DYT members of Pemagatshel Dzongkhag. During the awareness, the Manager, ESD, Pemagatshel briefed the gathering on safe use of electricity, inherent dangers of electricity, causes of accidents, damage of infrastructures, causes of line interruption due to public carelessness /ignorance, procedures for deposit work and Right of Way issues.

Central Region Coordination meeting

The office of the RCO,BPC Gelephu had conducted “Central Region Coordination meeting” on 16th March 2012 at Gelephu in the conference hall of RSD office headed by the Regional Manager, BPC ,Gelephu. The meeting was focused on proper coordination for the smooth functioning of BPC Divisional offices in the Central region.

The ESD managers of Bumthang, Trongsa, Dagana, Tsirang, Zhemgang and Gelephu along with the managers of RED Tsirang and Gelephu, RSD and TMD were present during the meeting.

RED’S new branch office at Jomotshangkha

Officially named as “Rural Electrification Construction Sub-Division, BPC, Jomotshangkha” under RECD, S/Jongkhar has been set up and functional w.e.f. March 01, 2012; located 190Km away from Dzongkhag HQ Samdrup Jongkhar and 2 minutes drive from Dungkhag Head Quarter, Jomotshangkha to cater the electricity needs of about 999 households (i.e. including institutions) under ADB-V RE-Program under Samdrupjongkhar Dzongkhag covering Merak Gewog under Trashigang Dzongkha & Langchenphu, Serthi and Lauri Gewogs under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag.

Jomotshangkha Dungkhag is situated bordering to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh of India. Although the Dungkhag is accessible with the motor road, however the situation is conditional (need to depend on escort) as the road passes via Indian State of Assam.
