Distribution Construction Department (DCD) is responsible for construction of medium voltage (33 kV and below) distribution lines, substations, etc in BPC. The construction works undertaken are mostly for the network expansion through BPC’s investment and deposit work from the customers. Network expansions are associated with grid extension or up-gradation work to provide reliable and adequate power to the consumers.
Under the DCD, HO, there are three divisions namely, Rural Electrification Division (RED), Urban Electrification Division (UED) and Quality Assurance Division (QAD) and five field divisions responsible to take care of Dzongkhags network expansion as below:
1. Distribution Construction Division – Thimphu
2. Distribution Construction Division – Phuentsholing
3. Distribution Construction Division – Gelephu
4. Distribution Construction Division – Mongar
5. Distribution Construction Division – Samdrupjongkhar
The DCD, HO is responsible for overall planning and co-ordination of the distribution construction works related to urban and rural areas in coordination with the field division (DCD) and Distribution & Customer Service Department (DCSD) of Bhutan Power Corporation Limited. The field divisions are responsible for technical feasibility study in the field in consultation and coordination with concern Electricity Supply Divisions, monitoring of the awarded works, liaising and field coordination, supervision of the construction works under their jurisdiction, etc.
The construction works such as distribution lines, substations and low voltage lines are executed by engaging local contractors. However, for the turnkey projects are executed by engaging local and international (mostly from India).
