The United Nations celebrate World Water Day on 22nd of March every year to tackle the growing water crisis in the world by addressing the reasons why so many people are deprived of clean and safe drinking water. This year, it was themed as “Water for all-Leaving no one behind” and the National Environment Commission Secretariat in collaboration with the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Bhutan marked the day by organizing a cleaning campaign along the banks of Wangchhu and, an art and essay competition amongst the schools under Thimphu Thromde.Read more »
Bhutan Power Corporation Limited conducted a cleaning campaign to mark one year anniversary of the adoption of Chubachu Stream near Chubachhu power substation and to mark the “WORLD WATER DAY” on 22nd March, 2018.
BPC adopted a section of stream near Chubachhu Power Substation to clean and maintain on a periodic basis last year on the “World Water Day”-22nd March 2017 which was launched as a pilot project to clean and maintain streams and rivers of Bhutan by the National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in partnership with Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS), Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Clean Bhutan, Thimphu Thromde and various stakeholders.
Environment & GIS Division, Corporate Services, BPC coordinated the cleaning program with about 30 volunteers from BPC head office and collected about 50 bags of waste from the area and handed over to Thimphu Thromde for proper dumping. The waste collected comprised of household wastes, old rugs and cloths, construction debris, tyres, baby dippers, sanitary pads, plastic and plastic bottles.
