The Chief Executive Officer, BPC formally appointed the Directors’ for 5 Services vis Transmission Services, Distribution Services, Human Resource & Corporate Services, Finance and Accounts Services and Strategy and Technology Services.

  1. Mr. Sangay Tenzin is appointed as the Director for Human Resources & Corporate Services
  2. Ms. Kinley Dem is appointed as the Director for Finance & Account Services
  3. Ms. Dechen Dema is appointed as the Director for Stratety & Technology Services
  4. Mr. Thinley Gyeltshen is appointed as the Director for Transmission Services
  5. Mr. Sandeep Rai is appointed as the Director for Distribution Services

With the appointment of the new Management, the incumbent Management was successfully dissolved. CEO met with the out-going Management team and he thanked everyone for their continued support and dedication in realizing the objectives and goals of the company. He highlighted the critical role played by the current Management system in shaping the position of the Company. He wished them successful career progression in BPC and expected to work with them with similar zeal.

Her Royal Highness The Queen Mother, Azhi Tshering Yangden Wangchuck conveyed her appreciation to Bhutan Power Corporation Limited employees who volunteered to contribute hard labor at the on-going reconstruction work at Wangdue-tse Monastery through the Project Manager.

154 employees along with the Management volunteered on August 3, 2019 to carry boulders and soil at the on-going reconstruction work at the Monastery. The Project Management of the Monastery Reconstruction were very happy with the excellent output of the day and said that the maximum volunteers seen for the work has been from BPC so far.

CEO, BPC thanked all the volunteers for their hard work.

ISO handed over to QMG

In accordance with the directives of the Management, the roles & responsibilities pertaining to the implementation of ISO Certification in BPC for Integrated Management System (IMS) was handed over to the Quality Monitoring Group (QMG) on 19th July, 2019, with a simple tendrel ceremony presided by the Chief Executive Officer. The Management Representative, Chief Internal Auditor, Heads and Officials from the Quality Monitoring Group, Safety Inspection & Compliance Division and Environment & GIS Division were also present during the ceremony.

Civil Service Award 2018

The CEO  and the members of the Management graced the civil service award ceremony 2018. The civil service award was launched in Dec 17, 2013 coinciding with the 106th National Day on command of His Majesty the King in recognition of the dedicated services of the civil servants.

During the award ceremony, CEO congratulated and conveyed his appreciation to all the award recipients. 

The medals and certificates were awarded to the following categories of employees:

1.      LIFETIME – 6 (employees superannuating in 2019)

2.      GOLD – 12 (employees who served for 30 years)

3.      SILVER – 14 (employees who served 20 years)

4.      BRONZE- 51 (employees who served 10 years)

In total, BPC received 221 medals (Lifetime – 15, Gold – 23, Silver- 24, Bronze – 159) from RCSC.

CEO makes his first familiarization visit to the Regional offices

The CEO, BPC made his first familiarization visit to SMD (Semtokha), ESD (Haa and Paro) and RCO (Phuentsholing) after being appointed as the 5th CEO of BPC.

During the visit, CEO met with employees and thanked everyone for their support and trust. He shared his aspirations as the CEO of BPC and conveyed messages to the employees to further work harder for the success of the company.

Contract Signing with M/s M/s Sharika Enterprises Limited

Distribution & Customer Services Department (DCSD) signed contract agreement for “Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning of common gateway and GUI for control & monitoring of existing autoreclosers of various makes over IEC 104 protocol” with M/s Sharika Enterprises Limited, New Delhi, India in the presence of Hon’ble Managing Director on 19th April 2018.

This project would enhance operational efficiency of the distribution system through network performance improvement and reduction of down time. Utilize effectively, the existing expensive autoreclosers integrating with the modern standard based automation schemes.

60 Employees receives Certificate of Appreciation.

Technicians, Linemen, Switch Board Operators (SBOs) and Meter Readers from different region was awarded with the Certificate of Appreciation on December 30th, 2017 in Jigmeling, Gelephu. The award recipients were selected on the basis of their experience, PMS rating and performance in the field. The selection of the recipients were done by the field Managers. The award of certificate was accorded by the Hon’ble Chief Justice, Lyonpo Tshering Wangchuk. There were 60 Recipients.

Inauguration of 400kV GIS Substation

The 400kV GIS Substation in Jigmeling, Gelephu was inaugurated on 30th December, 2017.  The event was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay.  Chief Justice, Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, MOEA and delegates from M/s. KEC International, India and M/s. Hyosung Corporation, South Korea were also present at the event. Read more »

Cleaning along the Chubachu Stream

The National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in partnership with Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS), Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Clean Bhutan and Thimphu Thromde organized adoption of Chubachu Stream by stakeholders and community located in the vicinity of Chubachhu stream as a pilot project to clean and maintain streams and rivers of Bhutan on the WORLD WATER DAY on 22nd March, 2017. Accordingly BPC adopted a section of stream near Chubachhu Power Substation to clean and maintain on a periodic basis to observe “World Water Day” on 22nd March 2017.

As a follow up to the adoption and cleaning of Chubachu stream, on 18th November 2017 the Environment & GIS Division coordinated a cleaning campaign along the adopted stretch of the stream with about 25 volunteers from BPC Head office. The team carried out a rigorous cleaning and collected about 23 bags of waste majority of which were old rugs and cloths, tyres, baby dippers, plastic and plastic bottles. The collected waste was taken to Memey Lhakha for proper dumping by the team.

World Water Day-Mass Cleaning Campaign of Chubachhu Stream

In keeping with the resolution of stakeholder consultation meeting held on March 16, 2017 at RSPN conference hall in Thimphu to observe “World Water Day” on 22nd March, 2017 and for adoption of Chubachhu stream by stakeholders and community located in the vicinity of Chubachhu stream, BPC adopted the section of Chubachhu stream near ChubachhuPower Substation to clean and maintain it on a periodic basis.


As per the directives from our Honorable Managing Director, a team of representatives from Environment & GIS Divisionand ESD-Thimphu participated in World Water Day Programme (22nd March 2017) organized by National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in partnership with Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS), Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Clean Bhutan and Thimphu Thromde.
